Help with Gapfyre SWE.
Email support@gapfyre.com and you'll get a reply, usually within a couple of working days. It's a real person — there's no ticket system to fight.
If you're writing about a subscription problem, it helps enormously to say whether you're on iPhone or Android, and to include the order number from your App Store or Google Play receipt.
What's free, and what needs Pro?
Every question in the app is graded at one of three levels, and the split follows those levels:
| Level | Access |
|---|---|
| Foundation | Free, in every topic |
| Intermediate | Pro |
| Advanced | Pro |
The important part is that the free tier is spread across every single topic, not fenced into a handful of them. All seventy-odd topics — design patterns, data structures, SOLID, concurrency, Kubernetes, AWS, React, SQL, the coding challenges, and the rest — have free questions in them. You can try the whole breadth of the app without paying, and Pro deepens each topic rather than unlocking new ones.
At the time of writing that's over 1,200 free questions out of roughly 3,400. Both numbers grow as questions are added, and new free questions arrive alongside new Pro ones.
Pro is sold as an auto-renewing subscription in monthly and annual terms. The price and any introductory offer are shown in the app before you buy — the app shows the offer your store account is actually eligible for, so what you see is what you'll be charged.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are managed in your App Store or Google Play account, not in the app. We can't cancel one for you — the stores don't give developers that ability.
Cancelling stops the subscription renewing. You keep Pro until the end of the period you've already paid for.
On iPhone or iPad
- Open Settings.
- Tap your name at the top.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap Gapfyre SWE, then Cancel Subscription. (You can also change between the monthly and annual plan here.)
Shortcut: apps.apple.com/account/subscriptions. If you don't see the app listed, you're probably signed in with a different Apple Account from the one that bought it.
On Android
- Open the Google Play Store app.
- Tap your profile icon (top right).
- Tap Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions.
- Tap Gapfyre SWE, then Cancel subscription.
Shortcut: play.google.com/store/account/subscriptions. Check you're signed in with the Google account that made the purchase.
Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription. This catches people out on both platforms. Cancel it in your store account first, then delete the app if you want to.
How do I restore a purchase?
If you've reinstalled the app, moved to a new device, or Pro has stopped showing as active, restoring re-checks your store account and puts it back. It's free and you can do it as often as you like.
There are two Restore purchases buttons in the app, and they do the same thing:
- on the upgrade screen, below the subscription options;
- in Settings.
Tap either one. Make sure the device is signed in to the same App Store or Google Play account that bought the subscription — that's what a restore looks up, and it's the reason a restore usually fails.
You don't need an account with us, a password, or a receipt. There's nothing to log in to.
I paid, but Pro isn't unlocked
Work through these in order — one of the first three fixes it almost every time:
- Tap Restore purchases in Settings.
- Check the device is signed in to the store account that made the purchase. On a shared or family device this is often the wrong one.
- Check your internet connection and try the restore again. The app needs to reach the store once to confirm the subscription; after that it works offline.
- Force-quit the app and reopen it.
- Check the subscription is actually active, not expired or cancelled, at your Apple subscriptions or your Google Play subscriptions.
Still stuck? Email support@gapfyre.com with your platform and the order number from your receipt, and we'll look it up.
One thing that is not a bug: Pro can only be bought in the iOS or Android app. The web version has no purchase flow and will always show the free tier, however you paid.
How do I get a refund?
Refunds are decided by Apple and Google, not by us. We don't take your payment and we have no way to issue or speed up a refund, however much we might want to.
- Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com
- Google Play: your Google Play order history, then Request a refund
If you have a statutory right to a refund where you live, that right stands regardless — see the consumer rights section of our terms.
Does my progress sync between devices?
No. Your quiz history, statistics and settings live on the device you made them on and nowhere else. There's no account, no cloud and no server of ours holding a copy — which is deliberate, and is why the app can ask for so little about you.
The practical consequences: a new phone starts fresh, and your phone and tablet keep separate histories. On Android, if you have Google device backup switched on, Android's own backup may carry your settings and history across when you set up a new device — that's between you and Google, and we're not involved.
Your subscription does move between devices. Sign in to the same store account and tap Restore purchases.
How do I reset my progress?
Deleting and reinstalling the app clears everything the app has stored, including your history and settings. In the web version, clear the site data for gapfyre.com in your browser.
This won't affect your subscription, but do restore your purchase after reinstalling to bring Pro back.
Does the app work offline?
Yes. Every question ships inside the app, so quizzes, explanations and your statistics all work with no connection at all — on a plane, on the Tube, anywhere.
Two things do need the internet: buying or restoring a subscription, and the optional YouTube and "Dig deeper" links, which open your browser.
How do I turn off the AI and YouTube links?
When you review an answer, the app offers a Dig deeper link that opens a new conversation at an AI assistant with the question's context filled in, and a link that searches YouTube for videos on the topic.
You pick your assistant when you first open the app, and you can change it any time in Settings. Choosing None removes the "Dig deeper" links completely.
Worth knowing if you care about what leaves your device: these links are the only feature that sends anything anywhere about what you're studying, and only when you tap one. What's sent is spelled out in the privacy policy.
Settings also has a YouTube search keyword box, if you want searches to include a channel or teacher you trust.
I think a question is wrong
Please tell us — support@gapfyre.com. Corrections are genuinely welcome and we act on them.
Quoting the question text is the fastest way for us to find it. If you can say what you think the right answer is and why, better still.
How do I delete my data?
Delete the app, and everything it stored on your device goes with it. There's no copy on a server, because there's no server and no account.
If you've bought Pro, our payments provider RevenueCat holds a pseudonymous record of the subscription. Email support@gapfyre.com with your store order number and we'll delete it. Note that deleting the record doesn't cancel or refund the subscription — cancel that in your store account.
